Being as it's only a couple of years i would't really worry about it....Have just seen the 10 years & not 2 like i thought

Don't for get that in those days they didn't celebrate birthdays like we do now, so not really sure how old they were.
Also its the head of house that gave the info so while she was at home it would have been her Dad, then when married it was Hubby

I have the same problem ..this man says hes 20 years younger but he appears on all the other census that make him 35 not 15!!

The original also shows himas 15!!

thanks ladies , yes funny enough the woman he married lied to marry but only from 19 to 21, will put a request up, i could have got the wrong man just a coinceident he had same mother and fathers name lol xx

Depends I suppose on whether they were trying to perpetuate a myth! i.e. might have lied to their spouse about their age at marriage, and then had to carry it through on the census.

I cant see any point in lying to the enumerator unless it was to "cover their tracks" so to speak.

Some of my ancestors were either very absent minded or born liars, I cant work out which (yet) but I've in favour of the latter! )))

Have you checked the original? Could the age have been read incorrectly?

by lying on 1901 census does anyone know, or just a mistake by saying your ten years younger xx
