Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 29 Apr 2009 00:18

Have a lovely large bird cage but sadly no birds anymore.

Went into the local pet shop today and......... she had baby budgies.

Rejects! Not regarded as good enough as show birds so the breeder gives them to the pet shop. They are absolutely beautiful so I bought two.

Girl and boy. She is quite small but has a lovely torquoise coat and the boy is a really fluffy style with white wings and a lovely shade of blue breast.

Loved their cage but are a pair of devils. Very tame and let me handle them so left the cage door open and out they came.

Bad decision. Have my dolls houses in that room. Went out to let the monster lab pup out in the garden and couldn't find them when I came back into the room.

Beggers had got into the dolls houses. One was sitting on a settee trying to rip it to bits and the other was sitting in another house trying to walk up the stairs.

Eventually using a long perch stick got them back in the cage. I am going to have hours of fun with this pair!

Grandkids don't know I have them yet. Will be interesting to find out what names they come up with.

Had 3 canaries and they got called sausage, egg and chips.

I hope we have more sophisticated names this time round but I don't hold out much hope!

Oh well it's something else to relay to the peeps I look after. They love all that sort of thing. I was getting low on stories about what the dog was up to and the tortoise. This will keep them going for a few weeks.

I said sophisticated Stevie.

Behave yourself. How would you like to be named after a breakfast food!

Call them anything foody and I will be imagining putting them between a slice of bread!

I need something more..... non foody!

It was lovely to read your thread Aileen. What about calling them Dolly and Blue Boy?

I am sure your Grandchildren are going to have loads of fun. Birds in a Doll's House sounds great.

What about shades of blue? Aquamarine and something? (Was going to suggest Aquamarine and Ultramarine but for some reason Ebony and Ivory came into my head . . .) Topaz? Sapphire?

Dear Aileen

My family kept budgies from the time I was 14.

The first budgie we had was a beautiful blue-coat girl called Poppy. She was very shy at first.

She liked looking at everything. and loved music on the radio.
She would sit near me in her cage.

When she was tame enough, she flew once around the living room and then straight back into the cage, just to stretch her wings.

She was a joyous piece of life and brought a lot of happiness.

I hope your new additions do the same for you.

How about Popeye and Olive for names?

Best wishes
