Theres a chance the property is still there. Try looking on google maps and if the road is still there type the postcode into google earth.

I'm guessing it was probably a 1930's semi 'cos thats all I remeember from the times I've visited Ilford.

Dear Yvonne

I have been looking through my local history detective book.

For Essex, there is:

Essex Record Office
Wharf Rd
Chelmsford
SN2 2YP

Tel No: 01245 244 644

www.essexcc.gov.uk/ero.

I am looking for some records for a church and large house in Dagenham, but their nearby local history office is being refurbishesd.

My grandfather x6 worked as a gardener at the house in the 1850's.

By the way, the book I got on amazon is:

Readers Digest Local History Detective
ISBN 978 0 276 44259 9

It has been really useful.

Best wishes.

Thanks - I'll see if they have a website. The address I'm researching is in Ilford and I live in Oxfordshire.

Really useful tip though, so I'll give it a go.

Hello

Try your local archive or history centre.

They normally have loads of info, pictures and sometimes photos of
places.

Good luck.

Is there any sites that I can use to find out what type of abode an address was in 1942?

thanks
