thanks linda, the brompton ralph one is definitely the right one I recognise the names of his brothers and sisters. Unfortunately there is no one still alive who might know his regiment. I'll try george's suggestion and contact Lesley.

There is this one, someone has added a correction. When I look at the images, it is for William John Webber, there are 12 images all together. It says his next of kin is his mother Elizabeth Alice Webber. Is this the correct person?

That is the only possibility on the surviving records, but on the medal index cards, there are four William John Webbers and another thirteen medal cards for William J Webbers. Five of these are in the Somerset regiment, but unless you know his regimental number from another source, it is not possible to know which one was yours, always assuming he even joined a Somerset regiment of course

Name: Neil McDonald
[William John Webber]
Age: 19
Birth Year: abt 1896
Residence : 25 Spencer Road, Acton
Regiment Name: Field Artillery (Camberw??
Regiment Number: 22055
Document Year: 1915
Number of images: 12

WW1 service records are on Ancestry, if you post name and any other details Dob, place of birth. anything at al, to see if his records survived as over 70% of these records were destroyed in WW2

I can look for you.

Also Lesley does look ups for WW1 and she is brilliant at finding records and much more

Try the National Archives. Lots of records on-line, and a great place to visit, too.

Is there any way of tracing the service history, or even finding out a little bit about what he did if you don't know the regiment he served in?
