To get things a little more in perspective. 12,000 people in Britain die of one form of the flu virus or another every year. This is just one more.

Yes a lot of people in Mexico city have died of this disease, but look at the poverty, how many of them ate enough to make them less vulnerable to disease?

From what has been said by the experts (not the media) it seems that this flu is going to be no worse than other flu's and that normal care and hygeine need to be taken.

That said, that still leaves the elderly and very young among the most vulnerable groups.

Looks like the virility of this flu isn't as bad as 1st thought.

BBC Report;
Mexico has revised down the suspected death toll from swine flu from 176 to 101, indicating that the outbreak may not be as bad as was initially feared.

Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova told the BBC that, based on samples tested, the mortality rate was comparable with that of seasonal flu.

Now would be a good time for TV stations

to screen a re-run of Steven King's "The Stand"- lol

Hi Maggie........when the news first broke of this so called pandemic. This H1N1 strain was described then as being a combination of pig, bird & human flu.
Which is why the experts were worried, as this makes it a human to human transmittable bug. The pig part apparently acts as the transmittable link from bird to human.

But like yourself. The media have blown this totally out of proportion & don't they love to hit the panic button. Even old established bodies, ie BBC, now give out tabloid headlines.
So far to date 11 people have contracted a mild dose of flu. Thats 3 more than yesterday.

At the start of the week there were a total of 108 confirmed deaths in Mexico, but only 26 people were confirmed as having this flu strain......Bit odd when more people have been attributed to have died of something than having been diagnosed with it.

Those panicking & cutting their holidays short & leaving Mexico by plane. Are actually more at risk of catching an infection on the flight home. It's well known that the air in airplanes is re-circulated & air quality is poor.

In the countries outside of Mexico, the virus has been found so far to be mild. The child that died in the USA, was a Mexican child brought in for treatment.
Although a specific anti-viral drug is in the process of being manufactured. This virus can be treated by Tamiflu.
UK government orders 20million more doses........mmmm.... nice earner for drug companies.

The questions in my mind is. Why has it been so bad in Mexico?
Is it down to social & economic factors?
How long have they had the virus?
Did it become such a problem because their authorities ignored it? And then realised they didn't have the sufficient anti-viral drugs in stock?

So, yes the media will continue to try to panhic the public!
