With Freebmd coming more and more online, should the major players now make the BMD records free to view.

No,,

Thousands of £ have been invested in buy the Indexed images and to get patrs free is a bonus........

1837 to 1983 costs in the region of £15K....

What you freely see for *free *is done by dedicated volunteer transcribers.

But its all free should one wish to travel to RO/Archives,,,,as most is brought to the comfort of your own home by someone who employs and pays a wages

everything cant be free in this game.

I think the charges for getting copies from GRO/RO's are too expensive......I don't know about anyone else, but I certainly don't NEED to have a *Certified Copy*.......a photocopy on plain paper is all I need for my research.

Ireland does plain paper copies at a lower cost, and of course Scotland's are even cheaper if it's online.
