I agree Uggers,
Partners or OH dont always make a best friend

a Best Friend is someone you share firm common ground with.
and can remain confidential even if the friendship fails

that shows their worth.

I don't see why your OH should be your best friend - isn't that just an old cliche? Friends are friends and partners are partners - good ones are both wonderful but they're not the same thing at all.

I haven't had a best mate since I was at school though I have some really good mates and one I've had all my life - most of them I would do anything in my power to help if they were in need. But I associate the whole best mate thing with needy teenagers.

Mostly, I agree with Lin - if you feel you have a best friend, that's great and needs no justification

Your husband should really be your best friend, but if he isn't then you have found a very good friend indeed Gwen.

I love Minnie's quote "A best friend tells you like it is, not just what you want to hear."

A true friend will pull you up when you make a mistake or are being unkind and won't leap to your defence if you are doing something they don't approve of.
