An injured soldier who is walking two miles a day said he was "a little bit sore" but "absolutely delighted" on his eighth day of the London Marathon.

Maj Phil Packer of the Royal Military Police, who lost the use of his legs in a rocket attack in Iraq, began the race with 35,000 others last Sunday.

He told the BBC public support gives him the "boost" to walk on every day.

Maj Packer, who hopes to raise £1m for soldiers' charity Help For Heroes, aims to cross the finish line next weekend.

I watched an interview with him before the marathon, what a brave, dignified and modest man. I wish him all the best for the rest of his race, and for the future.

Major Phil Packer was interviewed on TV this morning and has now raised half a million pounds for Help For Heroes. His website is philpacker.com.

To me he is a true British Hero and an inspiration!

I put a mention on another thread about him last week, probably one about the marathon, what a remarkable man he is, you can understand why he became a Major. Such courage and he has not long been walking again so very brave of him to attempt this.

When you see people being called heroes for all the wrong reasons, it makes you glad to see a real Hero being recognised, and I am sure he will reach his goal and raise all the money and maybe more besides.

He should receive a medal from the Queen, not some of the folk who get honours for no reason.

Hope he is still managing to do the distance he wants every day, and isn't too sore or tired.

What an inspiration to all those injured in whatever circumstances, to push yourself on and do great things.
He should be given a medal by the Queen in the Honours list, never mind posers like politicians and pop stars etc.
