My Dad

My Dad, who took me outside when I was very little to watch storms and taught me to love them. Who taught me to fish, to bait my own hook, cast my own line, take my own fish off but who never made me clean my own fish. Who every Sunday night in soccor season would buy us all a chocolate with his refereeing fees. Who would brag about his grandkids to all and sundry and whose eyes would light up when he saw them until he couldn't remember them anymore. Who through 2 years or more of undiagnosed Alzheimer's cared for Mum with her MND. Whose voice I'll never hear again in this lifetime calling me 'Sweetie'. My Dad who I miss so much.

Alison, they obviously couldn't be apart for very long as your Dad died so soon after your Mum, it must have been hard to lose them both like that but comforting to think of them reunited so quickly. You are very lucky to have such wonderful memories of both your parents.

When tomorrow starts without me
and I'm not here to see...
If the sun should rise and find your
eyes filled with tears for me,

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
the way you did today...
While thinking of the many things
we didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
as much as I love you...
And each time you think of me,
I know you'll miss me, too.

But when tomorrow starts without me,
please try to understand...
That Jesus came and called my name
and took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready
in heaven far above...
And that I'd have to leave behind
all those I dearly love.

So when tomorrow starts without me,
don't think we're far apart...
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here in your heart.

Thankyou all for your kind words. PollyPoppet, would you put your poem on the Remember Me thread on the general boards? It's so lovely that I'm sure others would appreciate reading it too.
