I got 5 Chickens last March 2008 & they have been lovely egg layers, so we decide to hatch some this year.
Last night 4 hatched & we are waiting on another 14, though some won't.
They are so cute, i can't wait for the granchildren to see them.

Hi

They are cute, i've gone all maternal, cheeping away to them & getting them to drink & eat, all 4 appear to be doing ok, but no sign of the others yet, they were all due tonight or tomorrow, so its the waiting game in the labour ward.

Congratulations to you both lol.
It brings back memories, when i was a child (long time ago) people always kept chickens and it was lovely to see the chicks, what us kids didn't realise was that later we had them for dinner:((

Hope you are both keeping ok. Val xx

I'm going to keep all of them, hens for the eggs, but the cockerels will be grown on to eat.

Martyn & I are proud parents LOL

Number 5 has just hatched,

Maz they are really easy to keep, my son has 6 on his allotment, & i know lots of people that have 3/4 in the back garden they need very little space. 1sq metre each.

The downside is when you get a lot of male chicks which when grown crow like mad. If you are as daft as I was you could not kill and eat them. The answer is have them caponised by the vet, stops crowing and other male problems. Good luck. Elaine.
