Glad your people are ok Jude, my friend that was over here recently lives in California and I am pretty sure her daughter who I made contact again with a couple of weeks ago, lives in or near Santa Barbara.
Must ring the sister here in Norwich and see if she has news.

We are so lucky this sort of thing doesn't happen over here. I hope there won't be casualties.

Hi Vic and Jude,all's well here,L and the boy's came up here yesterday to get away from the smoke,schools are still closed anyway.SB has fog this morning and wind's are calmer,so that is good.80 homes lost so far,and 30,000 people evacuated, so it was burning from Goleta to Montecito,unbelievable to watch,L will send you pic's.The big DC10 plane which has been converted into a fire fighting plane came in yesterday to do some drops on it ,they have to clear all other aircraft from the area ,as it is so big ,then it has to go all the way up north to reload,3 times he did it ,quite a sight to see,and he helped a lot.Will keep you posted.

Just read your thread and so glad that your loved ones are safe.

Thank you Ann & BC....have had a phone call from s i l, she says 30,000 people have been evacuated and it may have been started by an arson. Don't think anyone has died thank god!! Vics niece lives in Goleta which is the other end of Santa Barbara...pheww
Fingers crossed no one else has lost their home and all are safe.
Tommy (in the email) still has his cases packed and is watching the fire from his back yard!! He's English, from Sussex, bless him:o))))

Spoke to neice it was 6am, she's ok and further away than we thought, phewww thank goodness.
My daughter had phoned here in a panic cause she'd seen the news.

Received this email this morning(it was sent during the night) from s.i.l. in California, really very scarry, we will be phoning them asap......Vic is at work now, l think l ought to phone now but they'll be in bed, they live in Paso Roble, her daughter is v near Santa Barbara...................

There is quite a firestorm going on in SB,the Governor has declared it a state of emergency.This morning there was just a small plume of smoke and then an hour later it all blew up again,with 50 mph winds blowing,and it is now out of control.Hundreds more firefighters are coming to help from all over.I called Tommy and he was out side watching it ,he is packed ready to move out if need be,who knows what will happen in the night.all afternoon we have been watching it on tv,and seeing all these homes burn down is heartbreaking,several are gone ,they don't know how many yet,because the smoke is so thick.it's burned up to the Botanic Garden's,and going towards Montecito,and Mission Canyon,it's not good,will keep you posted,love Jan xoxox
