This is just a suggestion and I'd like to hear other members views on the subject.

I feel that GR could help us who have our ancestors born in Britain, but outside England. Sometimes it isn't until I have read through reams of postings that I finally find out that the information wanted is in England - not my domain. I think that it would help people who are search and also poeple who would like to help others if GR split some of the threads into the 4 countries.
This would avoid a waste of time for some members

Or, perhaps we could just encourage those looking for info to put the country in the heading or the first line?

I must admit I always assume requests are for lookups in England unless stated otherwise ...

Yes Elaine, it might help - but I think that it might lay itself open to duplicate posting if the person doesn't know where their ancestor is originally from.

However, WE could help by making it clear where in the world we are looking.
For example...I've often read through a thread which is about somebody who can't be found. The poster has kindly given plenty of background information, but then this crops up...."and Mary, who was born in Littleton in 1876, married Joe Bloggs from Eastville in 1897, and they went to live in Summerville".
It's at this stage that I give up, and I'm sure I can't be alone, purely because I'm left wondering just where in the heck these places are!!!

Jill - I think the majority "outside England" do exactly that,

Karen - that is precisely what I mean! Some people take it for granted that we all should know where towns as you mention are located in Britain. They could be in Wales for all I know!

When doing a search for someone, I often use google map. Not just to find these places, But also to see where the places are in relationship to each other.

Isn't it down to the requester then to make sure they add the County?

And I don't think searchers from outside Gr Britain always do put the country on the heading/near the beginning as I've read quite a way down a few messages before realising they mean OZ or NZ. Mind you, I can understand if they're posting at OZ and NZ active times.

Don't know if there is a perfect solution ...
