Computer playing up.

Norman Report 8 May 2009 15:21

My computer has recently started playing up in as much as when I first start it up I will get a 'No signal" sign and she won't fire up. I have to keep turning it off and starting it up again and again until it does pick up the signal. Also the curser keeps freezing and the only way I can shift that is to switch off and on again until it moves.
Any of you computer buffs got any ideas what the problem might be ????

Thanks....... Norm

KEMPIE......I do use AVG but not running it to get rid of a known virus at the moment
MEL......It happens no matter what program I am running
CUMBRIAN CAZ the Lake District Lass..... I will keep my fingers crossed and hope your hubbie knows.
It has been suggested it could be the video card or worst still the mother board or some 'less bright' ideas.

Dear Norman

Greetings from Darn Sarf (Down south) in England.

Me too with computer problems.

I get connected to GR, type a message, prepare to send and then it says error or too many on the server!!

So I have to do my messages about 2 or 3 times.

Also, the signal is weak! SE of England is supposed to be the mecca for the computing world!

Hope Australia is recovering from the terrible fires.
It was very distressing to see on the news.

Hope you can solve your computer problems.

Best wishes.

Dear Janet

I will try what you suggested.

I really do not like computers.

Perhaps we should all send messages via carrier pidgeons!
They would probably get there quicker.

Technology is not what it is cracked up to be.

Best wishes

Check your plugs - all of them. I know it's the first lesson we learn, but often forget. I find it best with the modem, to take all plugs completely out and put them back again.
Next, see if it happens on all sites, or just one.
After that, - someone else will have to help you because that's my limit!!
Good luck!

To be honest Norman, it seems like it could be your video card, it's the 'no signal' bit.

Video cards are not all that expensive, for what they are, so would be worth spending on a new one, but get it checked out first, and make sure its not the motherboard, or a CPU fan, it can only take 20 seconds for a CPU (your processor) to overheat if the fan isn't working.

I'd take it to an expert and get it looked at, they will then tell you what's wrong.

That's EXACTLY what happened to OH's computer TW. Only thing left unruined is the hard drive !!! xx

Expensive job, and probably always worthwhile just taking the cover off every now and then to check the fans are all working properly...

Still not sure what's happened to my OH's one, I've taken the memory cards out and re-seated them, now nothing happens, not even the beeps, just the fans working and thats it. I think the motherboard has blown now.

When I feel like it I will go through it again and re-check everything, and try again...before throwing it through the window LOL

I have the same problem every time I turn this on, I have to check the bottom panel, and usually find "I have NO SIGNAL" so just right click on the bubble and it tells me when I have "signal restored" and whether it is from very low to excellent (very infrequent). I wonder is this the same?
Sorry to hear about your puter probs girls!
