Oops, sorry, I hate IE, so I hadn't realized it has its own AdBlocker feature now! Yay - finally. ;)

There have been many threads here advising how to get rid of them.

To abridge the info:

If you use Internet Explorer, get a simple quick fix by installing NoFlash, freeware available here:

http://www.bbshare.com/products/noflash

You can then turn it on and off whenever you want. It won't block the adverts, but it will stop them from flashing. That site may look a little odd, but NoFlash itself is 100% safe and effective.

If you use Firefox, get an Adblocker add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Once you have it, you right-click on anything you want to block (including pictures, not just adverts) and block it, and soon you will have them all blocked. (You can block with a filter, too, that blocks everything from doubleclick, for instance.)

I recommend the Firefox/Adblock option, which I've used for a couple of years. I use NoFlash for the odd times I use Explorer. I would have had to stop using this site and Ancestry if I could not have blocked those things.

I wonder if other users of Genes Reunited area driven mad by the flashing adverts ? When you are trying to compose a reply to a contact it is so distracting to have all this movement right next to where you are writing. I overcome it by putting a pad in front of the advert, so I wonder just what is the point of this constant irritation ?
Perhaps it's just me, but I can't get away fast enough.
