Barbara Report 9 May 2009 15:31

we are stuck on our family tree and that isn't even going too far back on some parts.
the areas we are stuck on are:-

dorothy goodrick 1897 from sunderland, we only have her father francis henry goodrick but no year of birth and no further details back after francis

george heptinstall 1808 or 1809 d.o.b from northumberland, newcastle but no further back. we have a poss link of father being joseph and mother martha archbould (archbold?)

james flavell 1810 d.o.b(his son was frederick who's wife was ann maria grice) and james' dad was john 1778 d.o.b

henry johnson 1769 d.o.b born in norfolk married catherine walker in 12 june 1797 we have gone no further back apart from a poss bit of info that was henry's baptism 09 march 1770 with father being william deceased and mother anne but we are not sure if this is incorrect

thomas brettell and wife jemima who had a number of children, one being edward who was born 1797-1998

with all of the above we really would want help with any info at all with the main aim of going further back but even just fleshing out the existing info. we are not too knowledgable with this and dont know where to get any more info.

thanks

Hello Barbara

I suggest you buy a copy of Dorothy Goodrick's birth certificate.
Once you have that you will find out her mother's name.

Then if you buy a copy of the marriage certificate between Francis Henry Goodrick and whoever you find out is her mother, you will be able to find out from that the father's names of both of them to take you back further.

Not much help, I know, but hope it is of some use.

thanks for the info so far. we already found the the marriage info for her we simply found it under charles with her as the partner but the one you now pointed us to is her with charles as the partner.

we couldn't get enough info to guarantee that it was the right birth certificate. when we look at the birth indexes it really only shows the name and place but nothing else. we are not even sure if the dorothy kate goodrick is the right one as we dont think she had a middle name we are not sure if it is sunderland either merely that this was the type of accent. i would be willing to buy the birth certificate even if it may be wrong but where would i do this?

www.gro.gov.uk is where to get certificates from, (£7 each) this is the offical government website, if you are not sure the certificate you order is for the right person they do have a service were they can check details such as the fathers name for you this does cost a bit extra (£3) but if you can decide between several possiabilities its cheaper than ordering them all.

Personally I'd try and find Dorothy on the 1901 and 1911 census, if you haven't already, if your lucky you may find her with family, I know for some of my lines sometimes the mother isn't their but the rest of the family including older siblings are so you can then if the older siblings are old enough go back another decade.

I do though order certificates for my direct ancestors, as I have found its easy to follow a family back that have the right name but are the wrong family, also to take anyone elses information with a pinch of salt unless they have the documents to prove their tree.

Hello Barbara

Have looked on FreeBMD too.

There are children from the marriage of Dorothy Goodrick to Charles W Heptinstall all in Sunderland.

Doris
Sarah
Ellen (Goderick)
Charles (Gooderick)

Wonder if its work looking under the spelling of some of the children i.e. Goderick and Gooderick?

Sorry I cannot help any further, its very frustrating I know.

Certificates can be got from the GRO website.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro

Its where I get all my certificates from.

Good luck

cheers choccy

we really wanted to print out the census that relates to the 1861 census for edward brettell but when i put the exact same details in the search records and put in edward brettell and year of birth 1798 with 1 year either way, it only brings up 5 people but all 1800 and something D.O.B.
where did you find that info?
thanks very much

Choccy

Choccy Report 11 May 2009 22:31

Got the 1861 census from the Ancestry site.

If anyone else can print full details for Barbara, I would be grateful.
