Banished to Botany Bay?

Hi, I have found a birth record for one of my ancestors which states that the childs father had been "now banished to Botany Bay". The child was born in November 1827, which would seem to indicate that the banishment occurred within the previous nine months.
I am looking for any information regarding suitable sites to make enquiries about my ancestor, and would really appreciate any help.
My ancestors name was John Wright and he was from Coylton in Ayrshire.
