Thanks, everyone. Have found a way to bypass logging in every time, by going straight to internet explorer icon on my desktop. Have now got the full page instead of half a page and am able to add the few sites I needed to my favourites, which I havent used for ages. I always used bookmarks, which seems non functional now, or at least, I cant work it! Will save your info in case I find I do need to change back to explorer 7.

On the top line of IE8 next to the refresh and stop buttons is a green box. This is a compatibility button, just click on this and pages at a given site will appear normal in future.

If you have no restore point & downloaded IE8 as a windows update, try the following.
I have Windows 7 so migh be different if you have XP.
Go to start, all programs, click on window update.
In the bottom left you should see Installed Updates, click on that,if IE8 is on the list highlight it & right click & uninstall.
Usually the IE favourites are stored in a folder c:/users/computername/Favourites.
If you do have all your favourites/bookmarks in Firefox there is a way to import them if you are going to be stuck with IE8,just click on favourites in the top left, click on the arrow & from the drop down menu click on import/export,then choose from another browser & Firefox should be there.
Personally I do not use IE,I find Firefox much easier & more secure.
Hope this helps.
Adam.

your system SHOULD have done a restore point, or at least asked YOU to generate one.......

goto your restore function, look through the restore points till you find one BEFORE the download........then restore to that and you should be back to normal......

Start.>all programs>accessories>system tools> look in the dropdown for system restore.......click on that and follow the prompts....
