I re-cycle as much as poss and separate plastic and paper. I live in Slovakia not the UK, although I'm British. In Austria they separate everything and are fined if they do not do it. I would drive a hybrid car if they were cheaper than normal cars. I think they should be tax free to encourage production and buying.

Many people do not believe that climate change is happening despite what the scientists say. Which is a big worry. The problem with many countries in the west, inc the UK is its a 24 hr 7 day a week F you society, live for today and don't worry about tomorrow which does not help the C02 issue. Back to basics and a simple life would solve many a problem that we now face.

Don't forget the Copenhagen conference in Dec this year and join the an active group to fight it.

we have gotten rid of our second car and only use our car for long trips.

Ditto, Roger.... plus ( before I moved) had a large garden which I planted trees in ... hopefully in a miniscule way that will have helped purify a little bit of air...

I have double glazed windows, cavity wall insulation, maximum roof insulation, so my place is warm and so use less power to keep warm.

Low power engry bulbs, nothing left on standby.

So i am doing my bit.

So how about you lot - what have you done to help the Earth?

Yes I agree we need to do something but the whole world needs to do something!
Whether it's a natural cycle or not our C02 emissions can't be helping the matter.

Lets hope it's not when we are all choking to death that we thw world realise we need to do something because by then it will probably be too late.

well I don't know, but since we can ski in this country, I would not jump to the conclusion that anyone takes a plane necessarily? they might well travel up to Scotland by train... or be there already of course lol?

Yes of course other countries kick out more CO2 than britain, that's neither here nor there ...as an argument , just because others are worse offenders doesn't mean we should throw up our hands and say we can't do anything does it?

in any case whether the world is warming up or cooling down, do we really want to live with the effects of excessive CO2 ? take a look at what they had to do to make the air in Beijing breathable for the Olympics to see what I mean.

(I haven't been on an aeroplane in 25 years btw , before anyone asks, nor do I drive, that's not to say I won't , just that I would give a lot of consideration to other ways of doing things first)

The earth goes in 40 years cycles and we are getting at the end of a 40 yer warming up period.

So shortly we will be going into a period which the earth will start to cool down naturally and then we will wonder what all the fuss was about.

But remember also Britain is just a very small part of the world other countries kick out many many more times CO2 than if we all cut down in this country, so please don't tell me what to do.

Our whole lives are mainted by CO2, We eat things from factories that burn CO2, we drive cars that burn C02, we heat our flat or house and wash burning CO2. Where does it all go? up in the air and into the sea killing coral reefs and killing us and our kids in the next 20 to 50 years people will not have enough water or food and wars will begin.

We MUST end our love aiffair with oil and our 24 hour 7 day a week needs. I have a small son and it scares me to death what his future will be like in 20 years time. Summers are hotter and winters only 2 or 3 months long. If you like skiing? well its not when the snow comes but if!! I bought ski's last year and they could become redundent in as little as 4 years time.

I don't know why governments don't make hybrid cars tax free or VAT free to either the maker ot the buyer? The amount of cars you get in traffic just churning out smoke is in the billions world wide.

Let hope they all do something and make actual policy and laws!! At leat Mr Obamar has a brain unlike Bush who had no brain. We just need China and others to take action.

Our love affair with cheap flights must also end. Copenhagan is a small hope for action instead of scientists saying its happening, which we all know it is - lets stop it now.

Join an action group, re-cycle your rubbish, walk don't take the car, use a bike (if safe to do so), turn off lights in rooms you don't use, re-cycle shopping bags, get a hybrid car..... oh and lets ban plastic! the curse of the 20th and 21st century....... I could go on but its too depressing.

One final comment- The UK government should all be sacked and replaced asap. We need a revolution. We share this planet we don't own it.

Of course it has happened before , no one disputes historical fact...nor, surely, the fact that climate change of any type hotter or colder has effects on all countries, food production , health etc

But it makes sense whatever the 'cause' , to help minimise
the 'effects' doesn't it?

Would like to point that unlike some countries... our government doesn't ( to my knowledge correct me if I am wrong) contain any elected 'greenies' ie from the Green party... all the major parties have 'green' policies...whether some of them are merely 'jumping on the bandwagon' is open to debate.

Well 9000 years ago it was warmer than it is now! What caused the last Ice age to finish Global Warming but there weren't any cars factories, or so called hot house gasses in excess.
In fact since 1998 its slowly but surely been getting cooler.
We need to clean up our act but much of what is propossed by the Greenies may well do a lot more harm than good

I know a lot of scientists dispute that climate change is any more than a naturally occuring phenomenon (ie it has happened many times in history) however what IS indisputable is that the sheer accumulative effect mankind has on the environment is greater than ever before .

I think it is essential that we all do what we can, even in small ways, to minimise the effect we have individually and support sensible measures put forward by our government and Europe, even if we cannot influence the countries that ignore the problem.

I agree and think as usual the politicians are lying to us about how serious it all is, but what can we do, one country agrees to do something about it and then developing countries point blank refuse...

Climate Change Conference - Dec 09

Hi all. I hope you dont mind but I wanted to raise the issue of climate change. There will be a conference for Climate Change Conference - Dec 09 in Copenhagen.

We cant ignore it we are all detroying our planet with CO2, each year its getting hotter and winters are getting shorter. The ice is melting and the sea and coral are dying, chocked with C02. We must take action now and not just accept words from our politicians. We must ALL take action. Please take part and get invloved before its too late for us and our children.

Join an action group today don't look the other way get involved. Thanks for listening.

To answer Roger etc. I drive to go sking as I live near Austria, I only take showers and re cycle everything. I am very careful as I share this planet with others that are my fellow man and animals. And no Im not Austrian before you make any jokes but Im British (which may be worse! if you ex jokes about cellars).
