Thank you all for your replies. I couldn't get the darned reply button to work to answer. However, I did send McB a pm explaining this. What is wrong with the reply button I don't know but it makes me look an ignorant so and so for not replying to you. Elaine.

I find it amazing that you are deemed able to do the more physical jobs, but not be a dinner lady !
As Liz said - go to the CAB.

The Citizens Advice Bureau should be able to help, I thought there had been some ruling where age does not matter if you are able to do the work.

I thaught any employer had to write & ask if you wanted to retire, if you say no they have by law to keep employing you.

I have worked at the same school for 40 years, latterly as a school meal supervisor and relief for the two cleaners and the caretaker. I have been advised that I have to retire from the school meals job as I am over 70. However, I can still do the relief jobs and 5 hrs cleaning per week, this is paid at a lower rate of pay as I will no longer be supervising the children. I have been told I can still go on school trips supervising the children and still run the garden club( both unpaid), why have I to give up my S.M.S.A. job can anyone enlighten me. Elaine.
