SRS no I lost the msn photos also, I really did lose everything but no matter how much I go Fcuk I will pick up again.
and next time around will remember to back up everything weekly.

So sorry - please don't give up. Did you get the photos off MSN?

I'm not sure, perhaps it's too big (it holds the photos and sources in). i can copy it - so I have :-) but it won't do the proper backup. I've also got a gedcom file of it so it isn't a complete disaster.

I had a bit of a big disaster last June which I'm still trying to repair where I couldn't export individuals. As a result I had to merge an old file with a recent gedcom file and that caused a few mistakes too, which I'm still finding. Unfortunately although I thought I had done lots of backups the file was corrupted for a while so I was backing up lots of corrupted files.

I now regularly check for errors on FTM.

SRS why will it not back up ? transfer a gedcom from it to your email .....that is always retrevable ( see said I couldn't sp) as your mail is cyber space

How am I ....gutted and ready to throw in the towel but I'm made of sterner stuff so I will just have a sob and carry on !

my FTM was not backed up aswell as I thought ..but we won't go down that line or I might be a widow lol
SRS no I retrieved nothing from anywhere apart from the few photos I put on photobucket. Thankfully I am only losing a few shame is they are ones never to be repeated.
I am still picking up on the sites that I use and may have posted poetry on, a lot I will have lost.

SRS what ever you do back it up. I am not asking for sympathy, my fault, well hubbies but I should have checked !!

Just wanted to thank you for your reminder. My family tree maker appears fine & I can copy it etc but it won't back up. Just checking an earlier version to see if that will work.

Hi Uzzi... I asked my grandson to help me and yesterday we backed up all the important 'stuff' on my computer.

I've also got my tree on 3 different internet sites.

Many, many thanks for this thread.... I was always going to do it later but after reading what happened to you I decided later had arrived.

SRS my hubby despaired with me about keeping e-mails 38pages of them I just hope that I have kept important ones, but I fear that I had started deleting. When I get another copy Of FTM ( I lost that also ) I shall try to rebuild . Same as I shall check all sites for my poetry etc . I will get a lot (?) some back it will just take time.

Have you kept your old emails? Are they online? Perhaps some of them contain the info you have been sent?

You must be gutted...

I learned my lesson the hard way too and now back everything up regularly.

Monty not all were Gr and some are no longer with us.

SRS my PC man says it is wiped off he has spent 5days trying to find and as given me the old hard drive but he says it is dead.

Jean it is my own fault that I didn't back my FTM up earlier but I never thought about my poetry or photos or the stuff which I had been sent. If it makes you do it then this thread was worth my disgrace of not backing up

I am so sorry (: What an awful thing to happen. I'm very lazy at backing up but after your story I shall do it tomorrow.

Uzzi, is the hard drive beyond repair? Keep hold of it just in case it can be fixed one day.

Is there someone else you can get the photos from? ie a relative of theirs?

Jac so am I, so stupid that I had a whole load of Staniforth parish records, I had.... *tuts* no point on that lot might take me a year or so but I hopefully will find it all again.
It's me photos and poetry I realize that I have lost, some of the photos are ancient and I can't ask for them back as the person who sent is no more.

This is not a sad me just a BACK your work up at all stages
