Hubby is unemployed and my job will probably finish in July .He won`t look out of the box -he`s a Computer Aided Design Draughtsman. I `ve applied for 10 jobs in last few weeks -not all nursing , he`s applied for none and it`s getting me down .MOAN OVER !

Your entiltled to have a moan !! my hubby was layed off 1st week of January , he just got a job 2 week ago only tempoary about 5 week but better than nothing had to live off my wage and taht aint much got no help what so ever.

As long as you both have your health that is all that really matters. And if he won't shift. and get a job.. then how about selling the property he owns? He owns a flat that he rents out, doesn't he?

Once your health has gone, that is when the problems really start.... You are both very fortunate to have full health

A lot of people are having to lower their employment expectations at the moment.

Not good news in that area ...

we live in sylicane valley and many many people are out of work ....

my friends hubby has been out for 14 months !!!!!.....same sort of thing

Sounds a bit like your hubby has lost confidence in himself.
If he is not applying for jobs maybe he is in denial about being unemployed.

Could he go on one of these new schemes where he mixes with other long term unemployed so he has contact with people in the same boat?

I agree that job expectations need to be realistic but
some employers are taking the mick to the extreme
and exploiting people.

Most people complain about the working conditions and how they are treated rather than the salary.

Hi Ros, I think you have let him get away with it for too long, when you had your other permanent job things ticked over and so he didn't bother, and got in the routine he is in, now things have changed but he won't recognise it so maybe you will have to put your foot down and not pay for so much,so that he has to dip into his rental income for household things and more. Maybe it will hit home then and he will make more effort to look for something outside the box as you say.

My lad is trying for lots of work, he is so fed up with his job and the attitude of his current employers but he isn't getting far at the mo. i hate to see him so fed up.

You moan as much as want, I know the feeling. No: 1 son is working part time job only, no: 2 not at all, there are just not enough jobs to go around in a non industrial area that lives off of tourism, which is very weak at the moment.

I will step off of your soap box and make room for the next moaner.

When I got married my husband always said he would do anything at all as work if he lost his job.

Well he lost it in the '90's and let me tell you, all the usual jobs available, pubs, restaurants, shops etc he wouldn't touch, staying at home and spending hours on the internet (at great cost in those days) looking for something "at his level".

Hmmm.

So if he loses his job in the tough times at present I don't hold out too much hope.

Hi Rosolyn, sorry to butt in, you all seem to know each other.Many sympathies for your situation, I've been ther more than once, brought 4 kids up without two halfpennies to rub together. Don't nag your other half, we women are craftier than that!! Start feeding him on cabbage soup with bread and dripping.Turn off the heating, make sure there is no hot water, think wartime rations and put him on a strict economy drive,I'll bet that he will soon get fed up and get off his backside.
