Great excitement, I have a Hotmatch with 41 names that match mine. Great disappointment, in fact only one of the names match my tree, the other 10 bear no resemblance at all

I had my hot matches the other day. I think those at GR who deal with this task, could perhaps buy themselves an atlas. How can my relative, born in Dogsthorpe Nr. Peterborough, be a match to someone of the same name born in New Brunswick, Canada. This is the most rediculous hot match I have had to date.

Julia,

Sadly there isn't a human in GR to do the matching, it is all done by the computer, and the place of birth isn't checked.

Yes, BrinsleyS, I know what you mean, I was saying it a little tongue in cheek. By the way, there is a lovely place near me called Brinsley. Any connection??

The errors that are matched I find amusing.

I think there is a reason why GR don't match up the place of birth.

My grandfather used to tell stories of his boyhood, involving places that we knew not far away from us in New South Wales. Some of my cousins still think he was born there, but he was actually born in Auckland St.Andrew, Durham. He was only 2 when his parents emigrated with him and his two sisters. Five more children were born after they arrived in Oz. He was too young to have any recollection of his place of birth.

There must be lots of people who would be surprised to find their ancestor was born in a different place from that where they 'assumed' they were born.

Oh BrinsleyS........have got my hotmatches today and I was imagining some lady in a GR office somewhere, sorting out all the James Crawfords, b. 1830, 1866 and 1895.......for me......

......all done by computer........awwwww.....
