how do you save you tree to a safe place?

Pen drive or spare computer.

If a friend or relative has a computer why not ask if you can do a dump onto theirs and reciprocate by archiving their data (not necessarily family history: any files they or you want to safeguard.

The problem with PM's is nobdy knows if you have had a reply or not and a dozen people could answer your question with the same answer.
