Fi aka Wheelie Spice

Fi aka Wheelie Spice Report 22 May 2009 22:03

I live in a row of houses (some turned into two flats) and I have lived here 22 years. My next door neighbours (on one side) until about 4 years ago were 2 sisters in their nineties/eighties. Every sunday a gentleman came to pick them up and take them to church in his car. One of the ladies informed me one day she climbed over the fence and cleared the path from my kitchen back door which was covered in blossom from one of their trees which hangs over my garden. You certainly wouldnt believe it if you had seen her. She has about the height of the wooden fence.

Both became unable to cope physically and mentally and they were taken urgently into a nursing home and the house was left uncared for. The man who took them to church passed by weekly and once in a while we would chat and I would ask about the ladies. On one occasion he informed me that the younger lady has passed away but the eldest was still going strong and was over 100.

During the last few days I noticed work was taking place in their garden. The dreaded ivy which came over into my garden and had creeped into their windows and therefore their rooms has been removed.

Within the last hour I popped across the road to a local shop and on the way back caught the gentlemen who were clearing the property. I expressed how happy I was that the property was being dealt with now. One of the men said he was going to buy the house and the other was the man who used to take them to church.

During our chat the man who took them to church said that he had written permission to dispose of the goods within the house and asked if I would like something. Having talked to these ladies on numerous occasions and been their neighbour for many years I said I would be delighted to have something and would treasure it. He went into the property and brought out a lovely white teapot with a red rose and white flower on.

It is beautiful and I will treasure it forever. V and B will continue to live on in in this road with the teapot in my home.

It's always nice to have something to remember them by, isn't it? One neighbour I used to look after moved into sheltered housing and then into a home, and not once did her daughter ask if I would like a memento when she cleared the places, her Mum was too flustered and the daughter just went ahead with all the arrangements, bet she sold most of the stuff for herself, she was always on the make. She wasn't to know her Mum had given me a couple of things already, some time before having to move through ill health, but it would have been nice to have been asked.

I am glad you will have nice neighbours again.
