Hmm - don't speak 'North' - but am willing to learn.....
Have spoken Cornish, Devonish, Poshish and various types of Scottish - Northish should be a doddle - as long as it's not Geordie!!

Well, you'll be able to buy four of them, Maggie, with the milion "severance pay"

All you need to do is to spend £50 on wine.

Such a sacrifice!

LOL Sue - have you seen the prices of houses in Winchester!!!
At one point my humble terraced council house was worth well over a quarter of a milion!!!
Interest rates low etc - I'd only have three quarters of a million to live on!!

I'm over 50 - as to the list:
1) I'll retire tomorrow - lots I have to do but work gets in the way!
2) I don't drive - but if I retired I'd have the time to learn
3)I'm willing to buy my council house - mind you, as I have now apparently retired a mortgage may be a wee bit of a problem
4)One out of 2 has gone to University - the other is an excellent mother of two - (eldest grandchild in top 3 of class) - job done!!
5) Only £50 !!! :O(

I'm off to do my civic duty tomorrow - £50 spent on wine is no longer a sin: it's a sacrifice!

There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force;

So, pay them £1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They must retire. Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They must buy a new British car. Twenty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They must either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing crisis fixed.

4) They must send their kids to college /university - Crime rate fixed

5) They need to buy £50 of alcohol / tobacco a week and there's your money back in duty / tax etc

It can't get any easier than that!
