McAnne's Gahan-Crazy

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 23 May 2009 10:44

I'm sure there are many of you out there lol

.

Anyway I am having a trial period with them, after a break of nearly 10 years.

However, as I now have to wear varifocal glasses, I've got the set up of reading in one eye and distance in the other.

Now - my question is, obviously, does anyone else wear theirs in this way, and if so how long did it take for both eyes to balance out ???

They upped the strength on the reading one before I left the shop, but that's the one giving me the bother and I can't tell if it's too strong now or not strong enough, or if it's just a matter of time (on day 4 of trial).........

I'm just off to do some 'swearing' around the house but I will be back to check any replies - thanks :O))

Claire

They gave me that option but i kind of thought it defeated the object lol

I'm on a PC all day and drive as well, so if I was gonna do that there didn't seem much point cos I'd always have them on lol

I used to just wear glasses for reading, but was forever losing them and sat on 2 pairs.................I prefer it now as I put my specs on and wear them all day, but lenses sound like a good option

it works for me because I only wear lenses when I'm going "out".

Hi Anita, I'm similar to Claire, but I wear them all day - and wear reading glasses when needed.

I have astigmatism in my eyes, my left eye being weaker than my right, so the lenses are of different strengths.

I really would recommend contacts; I have the monthly ones, and have never looked back.
*cringes at terrible pun*

Go for it! :-))

Hi Glenys :O)

Thing is with my work, i'd be in reading glasses all the time if i had 'normal' ones - doesn't seem much point then to me lol

I have an astigmastism in both eyes, but my right is worse.

I've no probs with wearing them - I have done for years when I was younger, and they are comfy now, but the vision is not right yet ............ maybe I'm just being impatient as usual lol

Enjoy your day xxx

I wear varifocals, have done for a few yrs, but still take them off to read or use the PC !!
Depends how close I am.
When I was working, using the PC and writing I found them good, and wouldn't go back to standard lenses now, although they spend half the time perched on top of my head .lol
I've done hard, soft, monthly contacts in the past, but I buy contacts for holidays only these days, I'm a bit lazy and the glasses cover the bags under my eyes.lol
My previous optician did mention varifocal contacts, and I couldn't see ( excuse the pun..but none was intended ) quite how they would work.
Good luck with yours anyway :)

I've worn contact lenses for years and years!

As I've got older, I've struggled more and more to read and do close up work. According to the optician, the lenses correct my vision but don't compensate for old age. How rude?

Anyway, I have a set of ready readers perched on the top of my head for when I need. Works ever so well, and all for £7.95 at the local library!

If you want a chat about them give me a shout .....

Hi Tony :O)

I've seen your ready readers - very sexy ;O)P

I used to wear them years and years ago - I had gas permeables originally and then switched to soft ones - but my work moved me to a new building and the air conditioning just kept drying my eyes out too much - so I gave up with them.

I find now tho that specs are very expensive with varifocal as I like a very thin & light lens - figured the contact would work out a cheaper option :O))

i wear varifocal specs and my contact lenses, like yours are different for each eye.
In the right eye I wear the one for short sight (needed for distance) they reccommended this for driving.
In the left eye I wear one for close vision, hopefully they sort of meet somewhere beyond my nose!! LOL

I have daily disposable soft lenses, but don't wear them all the time, so far I have had no problems.
Good luck with yours.

I wear them this way McAnne in Kent

Its takes mine about 10 to 15mins to settle. Most days.

I wear the day ones, but i normaly make them last a week.

Had the yearly ones befor these for 5yrs and they took about the same time.

I also have pair of reading glasses for when i need them, I get mine from the £1 shop.

My optician tried that on me, McAnne - shame he never told me!!
I first tried contacts 3 years ago - but only tend to wear them at weekends, the rest of the time I have one pair of specs for 'general' use and another for work and reading (both prescription)
Had my new contacts, put them in at the weekend - and promptly threw up!
I had absolultely no idea what was going on - I couldn't stay upright!
Went back on the Monday - had a loud 'debate' about what the prat had done and got them changed for long distance only. I now wear reading glasses (cheapo kind) for when I'm wearing contacts.

Jackie Report 24 May 2009 00:49

I used to wear one contact for distance and one for reading until about 10 years ago. I got on realy well with them. Trouble is now I'm older the difference between them is so great that I couldn't get good distance vision or read very well either. I now just wear them for distance with reading glasses when I need to read.
