Thanks for the tips all, looked at Travelsphere, I wanted to go in July but the only tours available are not in that month, looked at Thompson as well and they only go from Gatwick, that's no good I live in Wolverhampton. 140 mile away.

I'll see what the travel agent can sort out.

Hi Ron

I have used Travelsphere quite a few times and would recommend them. Local pickup is also arranged which is very convenient, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your holiday :-)))))

I've been to Rome twice, and love it! There is a lot to see, but it's also one of those cities that you can just potter about in, people-watch, and wander down little side streets etc. The first time I went, I was on my own and did a couple of organised tours but you miss so much of the 'real' city by being herded about from pillar to post. I would recommend a tour of the Vatican though (but be careful, it's rip-off city!!). OH and I now avoid organised tours like plague and prefer to make our own way about. There are plenty of tour operators doing city breaks - Citalia is one, or try Thomsons. Most of all, enjoy, and throw a coin in the Trevi for me....!

Our trip with Crystal was a week in Rome and a week in Sorrento.
We had to have the second week to chill out after all the sight seeing, and walking.

Travelsphere were always pretty good, though haven't been with them for years. They do coach tours and holidays by plane, and city breaks. Many of the trips and tours were included within the holiday price, same with Archers but don't know if either of these are still in existence.

P.S. update.
Yes, just looked up travelsphere.co.uk and they do some lovely escorted trips in Italy....fancy it myself now!!! They've got one to Rome too, including city sightseeing, so you may be lucky and find it's just what you want.
Archersdirect.co.uk are still in existence too, theirs looks an interesting site.

Thank Mo, looked at their website and they have their brochures online but it looks like they don't do City Breaks anymore.

We booked with Crystal, dont know if they are still going.
The thing I liked about them was that the Reps look after you well, and give you all the low down on coach trips etc.

We stayed in a Hotel near St Mary Maggiore, (sorry cant remember name)which was breakfast only, no evening meal, but found some nice little restaurants in the market area of Rome.

Hope you are able to have a nice time, it is a lovely city, or was when we went.

Thanks for the suggestions, I thought the travel agent might be the best idea, any recommendations for a hotel or tour company to book with.

Had a week in Rome, and that was not enough, went through a travel agent, and this way, we got all the coach tours of Rome sorted out at the Hotel, through the Rep from Travel Agent.
One word, be very careful of pick-pockets in Rome, they bus the kids in from outside, not Italians but immigrants, and are very crafty.
I just stopped a kid going through my husband's camera case, which was in the front on his chest, on the train to the Vatican.

5 days I would suggest as there is so much to see and it is very tiring.Worth it though.

Anybody been on one, I want to go on an organised trip to see the sights and I don't want to mess about booking different aspects of the trip, anybody got any suggestions. I've looked at booking online and it's a pain having to book hotel, transfer, flight etc. sooner buy one off the shelf thru a travel agent.
