Well phew. With that reading, he isn't likely diabetic -- but he still needs to see the doc about whatever symptoms it is that suggested he might be. Glad to hear he's doing it.

A couple of days of thinking what life might suddenly be like if the result had been different might have focused his mind almost as wonderfully as a 2x4. ;)

Looks like I won't need the 2x4, I did the test for him and it was 5.5. He is going to the doctors just to make sure. I think it's been a wake up call for him, he says he's going to make changes to his lifestyle.

I agree with Sylvia - and in an ideal world he would.

If he won't, the glucose meter could be one tool in the arsenal of arguments to get him to do it.

It is definitely not the best thing to do; the best thing is for him to go to his doctor. And it's his decision and choice, no one else is responsible for it. But when you care about somebody, you use persuasion to get them to do what's good for them.

Glucose meter or 2x4 upside the head. Or both, if needed.

I'd do it. Only problem is, what do you tell him if his reading is high?

I would just tell him his reading is high, and if yours was that high you would be making an appointment to see your doc next day. And that the meter isn't failsafe, and lots of things can affect blood sugar at any given moment, and he HAS to get proper testing done.

And you may borrow one of the 2x4s I have so generously been offered. ;)

Do you prefer good Canadian west coast cedar, or fine old English oak?

Nerve damage is usually caused by diabetes so your doctor had to rule out.

I have a permanent tingling in my feet and half way up my calves. The doc sent me to the medlab to be tested for diabetes, but dont have it. He thinks it is peripheral nerves damaged.

That is nice of you to care so much for your friend Dee......and it will do no harm........OH has tested mine a couple of times with his tester, just for my own peace of mind......and it is good to know as early as possible so that treatment can begin.....

I hope your friend's reading is not too high, but if it is he seeks treatment asap, it has to be taken seriously.....

I think. I thought I was diabetic 2 years before I was confirmed. Our friend is well past that, he has a young son, he has to sort himself out!

I'm type 2 also, whenever I test anyone, I alway change the needle before and after.

I'm really concerned about this friend, I think he has it, he has pins and needles in his feet all the time, I've never had that, so I'm concerned for him. I think it's quite progressed.

I'm a diabetic, tonight I was talking to a freind, he thinks he has diabeties, I think he has diabeties. I've arranged that I will meet him tomorrow lunch time to test his sugar readings.

I think it's really important, Oh thinks it's his problem!

Should I meet him tomorrow and check his glucose readings? I think I should. I know how important these thing are, OH laughs about everything and thinks I should leave it.
