Can some kind soul please suggest how I might go about finding out who lived at an address in 1945?

The library, local to where you are searching, may hold copies of the electoral rolls for that date, or be able to tell you where they are kept.

Failing that get on to the council where the address is and they should hold records to your street and household.

i HAVE JUST GOOGLED ELECTORAL ROLLS AND I THINK YOU WILL FIND THAT CANDYMAN IS CORRECT IN THAT THERE WERE NO ROLLS DURING 1939-1945.

i there was a electorol roll in 1945 as i obtained one for bourgh of greewich if you write or visit thelocal council they will have it.

Have you tried your local arcive and history centre?

They would have maps of the district and probably the
names of people who had been evacuated or reshoused, etc.

It would depend on the area.
