Lol, Stray:)) Janey it was Jeff Beck who did a cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah and on that point I do agree with your No 1. I like Cohen but he can drone on at times and Beck does it sooo well.

And I can't believe that Hollyweird is considering a remake of Footloose, my only response to that is Noooooooooooo!!

Just talking about that last night with No.1. Next up: remake of The Taking of Pelham 1.2.3. For pity's sake, it's been done. Write a new script.

Even Hitchcock's remakes of his own were crud.

No.1 insists, though, that somebody-or-other's cover of Hallelujah is better than Leonard's. Gimme a break. A Leonard Cohen song is Leonard Cohen, and vice versa.

My daughter used to be horrified when she played her latest CD, to find me singing along with it. She would be amazed at how I knew the words until I said it was an old one.

Eventually, if she caught me singing along it would be 'Oh My God, my mother knows the words' and the CD would be taken off never to be played again, and replaced with some grunge that I wouldn't know from Adam! lol

My youngest daughter seems to have a never ending amount of re-

hashed songs that sound like " Pinky and Perky "on speed !! Gawd knows

where she finds them but I wish she hadn't......lol

Sometimes the black and white movies were more dramatic and scary than colour.....think Cape Fear with Robert Mitchum. The new version was good but the old one so much better.

I dont like remakes of films - sat down to watch The Italian Job the other night...............only to find it was a remake of the original totally wonderful film..................switched off within 2 mins. Couldnt be asked to be bothered to even watch to compare!

I disagree about Dolly Parton and Whitney - Dolly's version was how the song was meant to be sung - low down and dirty type thing, not a milk-sop pop version for the charts.

I have never yet enjoyed watching a re-make of an old movie. Most old songs affect me the same way but I have heard a few nice updated versions of Judy's "Over the Rainbow" - although the old movie still keeps coming back and enjoyed by the young ones.

I loved Whitney Houston's cover of " I Will Always Love You" far better than the Dolly Parton version IMHO. I think she really made it her own.

Morning Sue, morning all:)

That's the type of thing I mean Jax. I love Joe Cocker's version of She Came in Through the Bathroom Window better than the Beatles but some cover songs don't do the original ones justice. Same with films - some remakes are ok but on the whole I don't feel they should have left the old classics alone.

It depends on the cover, I love the original Whiskey in the jar by Thin Lizzy but think the Metallica cover gives it a bit more edge and is a respectful cover of the song.

But when it comes to bands like Westlife or equally pah groups who dont write their own songs just rip off everyone elses and warble all over them it bugs the hell out of me. Alot of the dance music now that pinch little samples of old songs annoy me too.

My OH calls me a music snob!!
