The hurricane season is on my mind at the mo.

Were going on our biggy holiday to Florida in August, a holiday
I doubt we will have the money to repeat in the short time future. (took us 16 years to afford to come back lol ) and I hope we miss a hurricane.

When we went last time (on our honeymoon 16 years ago in Aug) we just got in our hire car when the heavens opened & we got lost (which made me worry worse) . En route to the hotel we heard a hurricane warning on the radio & I freaked out, it was on the tv in the room as well when we got in later, with frequent updates. well I was terrified.

Little did I know in August you get often several alerts a week, and mainly these are just alerts, and most hurricanes die out before land just remaining tropical storms not reaching hurricane level.. One alert we were watching went up the coast to North Carolina and hit there as a minor hurricane, but I think damage was minimal at the time. I think they seem to get it a lot because of where it is on the coastline.

Everything crossed folks that Mildred doesnt get wind on holiday LOL !

As you say - a bit early, the hurricanes don't normally start until about August. We spent some time in Belize with my husband's work, and he was on the Hurricane Committe - but luckily no hurricanes.

- First depression and 7.1 earthquake
Another early start of the season. Tropical Depression Number One formed a couple hundred miles off North Carolina. It might become the first tropical storm (Ana), but is not threat to the islands, incl. Bermuda. On another note a 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit just 39 miles north of Roatan, part of the Bay Islands in Honduras. No tsunami luckily, but there were some casualties. Some hurricane correspondents on the Bay Islands reported about it,
