It's back! I switched on a short while ago, and there was my volume icon, back all on ian its own.

Brian, thanks for your info, I fiddled with what you said before writing this and that does remove and replace the icon, so I'll know next time if it happens again,

Mau, thanks also, the taskbar didn't go anywhere, everything stayed put except the volume icon.

Thanks all

Duncan

Hope you've managed to get your volume probs. solved Duncan. Do you not have a taskbar at the bottom of screen at all then? showing time etc.

Contol Panel, Hardware & Sound, Personalization, Change Desktop Icons (On the left side), Notification Area. Tick the box for 'Volume'.

Hi Mau

Sorry to take so long. I got as far as the Control Panel ok, but there is no Audio and Sounds Prop - I found Sounds, but nowhere to click mentioning Taskbar.

Something else I should have mentioned earlier - I'm pretty hopeless with computers!!!

Hi Duncan
When you go into control panel, and into sounds and audio devices prop.... you'll find volume control with the means to let you choose if you want volume icon set into task-bar.Just click it.
Hope this is clear for you.

No Colin, I don't think it was ever horn-shaped. I just took it for granted, now I can't remember what it looked like. But it's definitely gone. I should have said before that I am on Vista.

Not sure what system your on, but on mine just go start, settings, control Panel and the little horn you are talking about is the icon for Sounds and Multimedia - just double click it and it should come back.

Evening all, are there any computer whizzes about?

I have always had a volume control slider on the bottom right of my screen, it gets plenty of use cos I love my music. But tonight it has fallen off the screen! Can anybody tell me where it has gone, and more importantly how to get it back?

Thanks

Duncan
