Well - I had hardly any sleep - I think the memory will take a while to fade.

But, I managed to get to work so that's something!

Am now concerned that next time he has a bath (which I do out in the back garden with several buckets of warm water) that he will not let me do that in case he associates it with the clippers! Fingers crossed!

(the dog nail file sounds interesting Blackrose - I will investigate that one)

my dog rosie hates the clippers but I recently got a proper dog nail file and let her watch me do my nails with it and then did hers and she quite enjoyed it. as for baths, well I cant keep her out of the river but show her shampoo and shes off.

Thanks for starting my day with a laugh Jill:)

Bought back memories of bathing my dog. I used to finish up drenched from head to toe, the bathroom was an absolute wreck and I'd be left with a washing machine full of towels and a
sweet smelling dog that wouldn't come near me for a day or so.....LOL

All in all I think you got off lightly from the bathing point of view.

I'd definitely go for the vet option for the nail cutting next time.

.......and I thought wrestling with a cat was bad.....

.....but fighting with the dog, that must have been some sight, and I suppose once you had started you had to finish it.......and.......you still have to make amends with your pooch for putting him through all that trauma.......lol.....

No wonder you will be taking him to the vets next time, let him have a huff with the vet, and you can be his beloved owner who feeds him.....

Hope you didn't get scratched too badly.....

I think I will Claire!

Then the wretched pooch spent most of the evening cuddled up to my OH (him who had vanished off upstairs at the first sight of the nail clippers muttering "You're on your own with that one - good luck") and wouldn't come near me for at least 2 hours afterwards. Usually the dog is by my side with his head on my leg snoring for England.

Not fair.

After bathing the dog this afternoon – involving on my part one wet knee, two completely soaked flip-flops and the subsequent cold feet - my son arrived and decided it was the right moment to cut the dog’s nails.

We’ve had the dog about 4 years now, and he’s ex-rescue with a few issues, but I thought it would be a breeze.

Oh spare me.

One hour. One whole hour of my life. He’s not a large dog – roughly halfway in size between an Alsatian and a Jack Russell. But he can move, and he can whine for England (which I’d not noticed until this evening).

So there were the two of us - me (7.5 stone of reasonably tough womanhood) and my son (6 ft tall and no weakling) and the dog. We tried every manoeuvre under the sun. Including trying to roll the dog onto his back to indicate submission – did that work? No Caesar Milan it did not!

We finally managed to cut 7 nails, one of which we cut twice. (The back paws were fine it was just most of the front ones.) At one point I was curled up on the front room rug with my head on the floor moaning pitifully. Did it stop? No. We had to finish it.

I ended up also finishing the remains of the bottle of white wine that some idiot had opened earlier, the dog has just about decided to trust me again, I’m supposed to be all ready for work in the morning – bright eyed and bushy-tailed – pah! I’m exhausted. Will I sleep tonight? I don’t think so.

Next time, it’s the vets!

Laugh if you must but it was awful - just awful!
