Any computer buff know why I cannot see picture of my sister when making video call on skype, she can see me.

Has she got her webcam set up properly? She can test it herself.

Yes, her webcam is set up OK.. She lived in Spain and has had video calls with her son in England.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

She has to click the " Start my Video" button when you connect to each other otherwise you won't see her.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to give answers to my question.
We now think that it could be that my RAM is not big enough for videocalls.
I went to PC World yesterday and I was told that I should have a least 1Gb to operate SKYPE on video calls. So until I get extra RAM installed I shall have to make do with Skype phone calls and random video shots.
I am really looking forward to ssing my sister as I have not seen her since 2006, so you see how important it is to me.
Thank you all again, so much. Any further tips would be most welcome.

PC World are taking rubbish, they probably want you to buy more memory so that they can charge you forit and no doubt for the fitting of it as well. You only need 128 meg ram to use Sype, Windows XP requires twice that anount just to install and run so what memory do you have on your PC.

If you have XP on your PC you can use Skype.

Ron ,according to my system I have total physical memory of 256Mb.
Skype HELP recommended requirements staed: 1GHz CPU 512MB RAM.
To tell you the truth all this is gobbledegook to me.

Ron

Ron Report 5 Jun 2009 15:22

When I looked at Skype it said 128 meg, my wife old PC ran Skype perfectly okay on 256 meg ram, if you can watch a video or utube on it you can use Skype, 'nuff said.

256 meg ram is very low mind, it does need upgarding.

Thanks Ron, you have determined that I shall upgrade to 1Gb memory. I do have XP, service pack 3.
I will not go to PC World though. I think my neighbour (who is big in IT) will help me out, reluctantly. but he will help, because his wife will persuade him to.
PC world tried to tell me that my 3 year old computer should be replaced.
Ha, fat chance of that. I am a pensioner, and cannot claim expenses for it.
Ha Ha
Thanks again for your help, you are a diamond.
I have my tree on Tribalpages, and Ancestry so perhaps they are using too much memory

Ron Report 5 Jun 2009 20:26

Having trees on websites will not use any memory, only running programs on your PC uses memory.

A 1gig stick of memory will cost about £30-£40 and all you do is stick it in the slot, it takes more time to take the side off the case than fitiing it, less than 10 minutes total work.

Thanks Ron and Harswell for your input.

I think I will still get extra memory put in to speed this computer up.

It keeps freezing especially on this site.

My neighbours wife came in this evening for the relevant books to this computer for her husband to do the jobbie for me.

I am going to try my sister again tomorrow to see if she has clicked the start my video button. Will let you know Ron. It might be that simple.

There are so many different memory types available, he'd be better off taking out the stick and taking it to the store to ensure you get the right type.

OK Ron I will see him when he is ready to help.

By the way checked out your web site. Great. I may get you to print my tree when I have more info on my family.

I have managed to contact my cousins who I have not seen for over forty years due to a falling out in the family.

You can use crucial.com/uk/ to test for your memory type.

Have you managed to get the video running of yourself in the setup of skype?

Although I don't video call as such, I use it for messaging, you just need to mute the sound.
