Thankyou DET and Keith,

I had no idea of any of the other words of the poem and I'm not completely sure that my Dad did either. I always wanted to know what it was. You've cleared up a mystery for me.

TREES

by: Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)

THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

My Dad used to often sing the first few lines of what I believe was a poem. I can only remember the first couple of lines and would like to know the whole poem. Can anyone help? it goes like this:

I think that I will never see
A poem lovely as a tree
A tree.......

I think that's it, any ideas?

Thanks in anticipation,
Alison
