General Chat

A-Z and quizz type threads there are on the board. Wouldn't it be a good idea if genes started a games/quiz board, they do push the other threads down the board so quickly.

I don't mind them Joan and they are obviously popular but I do feel they would be better on a special board. with those on here and on cat there are at least 14 different threads.

That's a good idea, Ann, lots of other forum have a separate board for them....

I get fed up with them, a separate place for them would be a good idea. You have to ttrawl for quite a long time to find an interesting subject. It does look as though there is a dearth of ideas at the moment, and I dont have any either!

I thought of starting one up, an A-Z list OF A-Z lists thread,

I think they are childish and a waste of board space but I don't deny the rights of people to post what they want.

I also think people are maybe deliberately trying to keep them up the top. When they first started they tested your brain but now they are getting boring.

It is a shame because some good threads get pushed right down and get lost because people invariably don't trawl further than 2 pages.

If I owned GR (I have 50p - do you think ITV would accept that? lol) I would merge chat and general and have a board for jokes and games.

some people will probably say the same thing about chat and general ie why don't we just have a tips and records thread?

I do like that there is something for everyone but as there's so many games threads, perhaps an alternative board would be best.

The trouble is Joan that for a while now there has been nothing to balance out the light threads on chat with sensible discussions on Gen. as soon as somebody puts a serious debate up one of two things happens, either people start messing around and the thread deteriorates, or people take offence and the thread deteriorates.

As you know Lynda Gen and chat were not always the same, I think Genes would say they are only the same now because we don't follow their guidelines. However, if we only talked about genealogy on gen, half the threads on tips would belong on Gen, so they would really need to have a sort out. But yes I agree, at the moment chat and gen are more or less the same.

As you probably know, I have a couple of A-Z's on the General Board. I have not added to them for a long time, but every now and again they do come onto the first page. Should I delete them lol?

It has only been in the last year that I have occasionaly used the Chat Board. GR now stipulate that the General Board is for Genealogy and the Chat Board is for any other topics.

Many members are doing their utmost to post topics unrelated to genealogy on the Chat Board. I am begining to wonder, if this is why a lot of threads that have caused no offence whatsoever, are being deleted from the General Board. Including one of your lovely threads re Srcap booking.

GR are at fault. They should pull their finger out and get their act together.
It would be great if all the threads on General could be transferrred to Chat, so we could all read old threads etc. on say General Chat. If we all followed the rules Chat could well become just how General topics used to be.
General Topics could then be called say, Genealogy Topics.

Yes, I also agree that there could be a Quizzy Board if needed.
