I got an email back from my enquiry giving me all the different addresses to contact, depending on whether Dad was in Army, Navy etc but said it will cost £30, which I will have to save up for. Why did I never think of asking him when he was alive, so I could have written it down, doh!

Hi Iris

My dad sent off for his Uncle's army records with full date of birth and no army number. It cost £30 if you follow George's link you can download the form.

Best wishes

Here is the link to the Veterans Agency which deals with WW 2 service records, It explains who can apply for these records.

These records are still held by the MOD and are not in the public domain, nor can you view them anywhere
It might be worthwhile giving them a ring explaining what info you have, the may give you some guidance

Hi Iris, for WW2 you need to be the next of kin and have to pay the MOD to get the records. It takes a while.

this site will help you http://homepage.ntlworld.com/prose01/WW2_Army.htm
