Dear All

Yipee! Replies at last!

I thought I would be GR no-mates about football!

In our house, everthing was planned around the time of the football matches.

What was nice in Euro 2004, World Cup 2006 and Euro 2008, is that the kids at school learned about the countries taking part. A bit if history, about nature, national costumes etc.

This brought people together.

I loved Euro 2008. No pressure because England did not qualify, so we could enjoy the football.

I think though we should abolish penalties because England never win on them!

Thank you to all who have replied and shared their memories.
Lovely.

Very best wishes to all.

One game that stands out in my mind was at Italia 90.......England played Germany in the semi finals and went on to lose on penalties..... it was the game where Paul Gascoigne broke down in tears because being yellow carded meant he`d miss the final if we got through....... and the reason i remember it so well..............I was about a week overdue with 2nd daughter, the game was such an edge of your seat situation I`m suprised it didn`t start my labour off.........needless to say she hung on till 13th July around a week later.

Was on holiday on the IoW for the 1966 World Cup. The hotel's (B&W!) TV had broken down so we had to listen to it on the radio. It was still a very memorable moment...

In 1966 I was lucky enough to go to two games at Villa Park -

West Germany v Argentina and West Germany v Spain.

I enjoyed both gamed, esp. the second.

In those days we stood behind the goal areas. This made it possible to be more friendly with the other fans, swapping club badges etc.

It also made it easier to jump up and down when the team you supported scored.

Good weather, good company, good game.

Yes when dear old Bobby Moore raised the World Cup over his head.

Coming from the same town as I did, I was so proud I could not speak for the tears that were coming down my cheeks.

Dear All

Since it is quiet (ish) this summer with no football tournaments,
have you got a favourite memory of a World Cup game?

Or even a European championship game.

One or two games that really stand out for you.
Where were you at the time? Celebrating or sulking?

Best wishes to all.
