Thank- you all for your replies. I managed to find my uncle at scotlandspeople and my father's registration. I was going about this wrong to begin with and assumed that records here on genes uk website would show all those born in the uk (including scotland). |

Don't know if it's the same in Scotland, but in England if a birth index shows a birth registered as, say, Male Smith it simply means that the birth was registered before the parents had decided on a first name for the child. |
