I have used moisturiser and vit E oil. supposed to soften the scar. It is certainly not numb!! I wondered if it was nerve damage

thank you for all your suggestions, commiserations.
Smiley is your Dad in Glos then? GRH is where i had my op, had a lovely consultant but have not seen him since on any check ups due to the innefficiency of the booking clerks (another consultants intimation not mine).
Directly after my op I had to have the site of the op xrayed because they had 'lost' a very small (about an inch and a half long) instrument. I asked the consultant the next morning and they never did find it but the xray was clear. It is human nature to wonder if it is floating around inside me!! I hold my breath when I go through the airport xrays Lol!!! I am 99.5% sure that it is not inside me!!!
My pain is not as bad as your Dad's.
Hopefully it will heal with time.

I was recomended natural vit E oil from the health shop to gently massage with--it's very soothing! Sounds like the scar has impinged on some nerves--sometimes happens--some people have numb areas around scars too

Hello Ann
My dad went to see his consultant at GRH for this very problem on Thursday.
He has had 2 hernia ops this year, the most recent was 4 weeks ago, he says the scar is causing him so much pain that he wishes he still had the hernia!
He didn't have a good experience with the 2nd op and I think he was actually worried that they had left something inside him.
The consultant read his notes and checked him over, all is well, but he thinks he has a trapped nerve within the scar.
Dad says it's even uncomfortable to have the duvet on him at night.
The consultant asked him to give it two more weeks to heal and has another appointment for the 25th June, but if dad is still in pain he can give him an injection to sort it out.
I would definitely persue this Ann, you shouldn't have to put up with the pain after 16 months.
Hope you get it sorted
Sam

Hi Ann, sorry you are in pain,I had a hysterectomy years ago so know how you feel. The pain you are getting sounds like the classic symptems of nerve endings mending. I still get the odd twinge after 17 yrs. It will get better in time and is perfectly normal. Love, Nina from Sheffield

I had a mastectomy 7 yrs ago, and there is often a pain through the non existant nipple. Feels as if I am going through the op without anaesthetic!

Thanks Hazell, seems daft when the cure makes more problems than the cause.

Thanks Daff, I just wondered if it was normal, in fact the scar is more of a problem than the rodent ulcer was which didn't hurt at all. OK I will see the doc when we come back from the Lakes.

Hiya Ann... yes, I have a pair of scars on my ankle... they get very sore and tender at times, also have the stabbing pain, which can make walking difficult.... for years I just thought it was to do with the broken (now healed!!) bits giving me gyp... but it isn't always, it often is the actual scar. It is much less these days, every couple of months I seem to have problems, and then it goes.

I had a problem for many years with shoes, as the scars are in the area a zip for boots and the heel would go, but that has resolved.

Mine is scar tissue from a couple of ops, as well.

If it is still giving you problems, get it checked by the GP, that would be the safest, and would put your mind at rest, too.

Love

Daff xxxx

It is now 16 months since I had my minor op which left me with a 6" scar across my upper abdomen, about an inch under where my bra band goes across. It still gives me pain, sometime as if somebody is sticking pins into me (*thinks who have I annoyed?) and sometimes it is a pinching pain, it is also sore, even woke me up last night.
The consultant who checked me over after 14 months in April (not the one who did the op) said everything was fine and didn't seem interested in the fact it still hurt. anyone else have a scar that still hurts and is it normal?
