Apart from looking anything Data Proteced.or actual registeres of BDM.....

Almost all historical records are *free *to look at......it just means getting up and going where they are kept to see them.....

If you mean inline then NO.........who is going to fund it,,,,who is going to pay wages to man it--who is going to pay a full team to gather all the millions and millions of records and process into data for internet useage.

So no they should not all be free,there is a hugh vast amount of material online for free if you search out the relevant sites.

Not sure what you mean by 'all records', but FreeBMD is a registered charity and the index pages have been getting transcribed since 2001 and still only around half-finished. Volunteers come and go but to pay someone to do the transcribing would be a phenomenal cost, as someone else mentioned. FamilySearch is also free.

When I first began to research - about twelve years ago, I found whole censuses free on the internet - but they were taken off by the people who had transdribed them, and later offered in the form of CD's available - for a price! Where it started out to be friendly and open to all - people began to see how they could make money out of it, and withdrew all the free info.

I subscribed to Ancestry.com and began to put my tree on it. They then contacted me and asked to help with the transcribing. I did more than three thousand records for them before I realised that they were making money out of this and I didn't get any reduction in my renewal subscription, as promised, so I changed over to FreeBMD and removed my tree - so that they would not use that for their records either.

I have now transcribed just on fifty thousand records for FreeBMD and I have improved my speed greatly, but more than that - it is a satisfaction to know I am helping to make this info FREE to all. Their progam is much easier to follow too.
