Silly question about tattoos

Another of my silly questions.
When I was out today I saw a black man standing outside of a tattoo studio and it made me wonder if black people have tattoos.

I know there is a Maori tradition and I think that is where the idea came from but I was really wondering if a tattoo would show on very black skin.

That sounds like a lot of pain for not much result.

What about that 15 yr old girl who went to have a couple of stars tatooed on her face and "woke up" with 56. Her mother said she is now disfigured for life and is thinking of suing!
Sorry but there´s a few questions in my mind here.

Was she sleeping through the treatment as she said?
Was she drugged perhaps?
Can a 15 yr old be tatooed without parents permission?
etc. etc.

There´s a picture of her on MSN,

children do lots of things under age and get away with it, like having sex and getting pregnant for one.......... but you dont often hear the grandmothers suing do you?
ALL under age mothers and fathers should be prosecuted, at least to put the fear of the law into their minds.........instead of give ing them houses and benefits...........THEY got themselves into it.....let their families cope, like in the old days....

My Dad had a tattoo, which his friend did for him when they were in their teens(going back to about 1920), it was five dots like a dice between his first finger and thumb.

My maternal grandmother had a tattoo on her arm, again done by a friend saying I.L.F.S in block as you see on trees, meaning I Love Sam Fleming. She never married Sam, but when I used to ask her what it meant, she used to say I Love Self First. I suppose she did not want to remind Grandad of her previous boyfriend.

Apart from all of them piercing each others ears, with a needle and cork, It is a wonder there was not more blood poisoning about in those days, but it would appear there was not.

Hardly helpful comment, and very ignorant. If you have done much family research you will have soon realized that often families did not cope with illegitimate children. They often ended up using the Poor Laws (the equivalent in a way of today's Social Services payments) for support, or the Workhouse, and the local ratepayers of the day were making the same sort of comments then about having to pay for them.
Nothing much has changed. It is just now a national "scheme" rather than a purely local one, overseen in the early part of the 19th century and before, by the Church and local Civil Authorites.
