Gran's kitchen - a flagstone floor, huge wooden table scrubbed white, covered when not in use by a dark blue cloth with a fringe, standing in the middle a vase of flowers (usually the wild ones picked as we walked to her house). Under the multi paned window, framed by blue check curtains, there was a two tone brown stone sink with just a cold water tap & a wooden draining board. The black leaded kitchen range, with a big black kettle always on the point of boil, had a multicolour rag rug in front of it. The kitchen always smelt of fresh baked bread or cakes. To one side of the sink there was a door into her larder, a small room, with wooden shelves from floor to ceiling on two sides & under a small wire mesh covered window, at the far end, there was a marble slab. |

I also remember going with her to feed her chickens/collect eggs. She had an enamel bowl with a wooden handle, this was filled with corn from a sack in the shed & when empty used to carry the eggs back to her larder |
