I will never forget my Nan's kitchen and the smell of baking on a friday, the warmth of the hearth and the gentle music of Jim Reeves playing in the backgroud my kids never experienced it but know it so well x

Is there anywhere you'l remember all your life?

Yes my grans Kitchen and all the cooking smells also my Great aunt Nellies bedroom where she used to sneak me up to give me a shiney 6d it smelt of lavender and love

there was a clearing in the fields nearby we used to take a picnic twas God's own country x

Gran's kitchen - a flagstone floor, huge wooden table scrubbed white, covered when not in use by a dark blue cloth with a fringe, standing in the middle a vase of flowers (usually the wild ones picked as we walked to her house). Under the multi paned window, framed by blue check curtains, there was a two tone brown stone sink with just a cold water tap & a wooden draining board. The black leaded kitchen range, with a big black kettle always on the point of boil, had a multicolour rag rug in front of it. The kitchen always smelt of fresh baked bread or cakes. To one side of the sink there was a door into her larder, a small room, with wooden shelves from floor to ceiling on two sides & under a small wire mesh covered window, at the far end, there was a marble slab.
My Grandparents moved from that house when I was about 6, but I can still remember it vividly & even the smell.

I also remember going with her to feed her chickens/collect eggs. She had an enamel bowl with a wooden handle, this was filled with corn from a sack in the shed & when empty used to carry the eggs back to her larder

lol Christine have you every done anything like climb the steepest part of the hill for the rush been scared out your wits but still done it lol x

We went to I think it was Bideford and wanted to go down into the villiage of Cloverly we got down ok took us a while all shattered at the bottom only to realise when we came to go back up there was no up path as my dauther called it we went back the way we came it was so treachreous goin back up but we did it took 3 hours blisterin hot day but we did it x
