Que sera, sera, takes me back to my childhood, Mum used to sing it

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother what will I be
Will I be pretty, will I be rich
Here's what she said to me

*Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be

When I grew up and fell in love
I asked my sweetheart what lies ahead
Will we have rainbows day after day
Here's what my sweetheart said

Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be

Now I have children of my own
They asked their mother what will I be
Will I be handsome, will I be rich
I tell them tenderly

Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be
............

Auld Lang Zyne.

(excuse the spelling). When I hear it, I always think of how little we knew of what was going to happen, and how little we know of what's in store in our future.

Not so much a song but a hymn - Abide with me. When I was young and couldn't sleep, I was a night owl even then, I used to sneak downstairs with my Mum while Dad was on late shift, and find her ironing or something, while listening to the radio cos we didn't have tv then. If the hymn came on she would be in tears as she said it reminded her of her Mum, my Granny who I never met, as she died when my Mum was just 16 and the baby of the family.
Ever since I have felt weepy when I go to funerals and it is sung. When my Mum died in 1995 she left a note to say which hymns she wanted at her funeral, she wrote 'Not Abide with me, Liz, I won't leave you with that one' but did she never realise she had left me with it since I was a child?
I well up every time I hear it but love the words and want it at my own funeral.

As for songs, I suppose Hello Again from the Jazz Singer, Neil Diamond sang it, and it came out around the time I was pregnant with my son, and apart from his father who was still in Malta. It kind of spoke volumes about the way things were going. Still gets to me now.

Mine is, When a Child is Born, it was a Christmas hit in 1976.

There are loads but one that sticks out is "Bits and Pieces" by the Dave Clark Five. It's a happy memory but still makes me cry.

Remember my Nan and Aunt Lil stomping about the living room in their zip up ankle boots after having some of my Dads home made wine one Friday afternoon when this was on the Dansette.

Abide with Me makes me cry as well because my Granddad sang it just before he died

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas it was being played on the radio as I and my ex sat on the living room floor wrapping the pittiful small and cheap presents that were the only ones we could afford after my business went bust - thw worst Christmas of my life. Even now years later I have to turn it off if it comes on the radio otherwise I start blubbing

Sometimes When We Touch because for some reason when my late Dad was in the depths of dementia he would sing this song - word for word - with such sadness in his voice. After 3 years it can still bring me to tears.
