Going through old papers etc, for tree, I found the date of my granfather's death June 24th 1946, 63 years ago tomorrow... no one left now to mark that date except my brother and I .

The second thing I came across was the envelope in which he had left his will (not with it) it had his 'official' writing on ie 'This is the will and testament etc' in his beautiful copperplate handwriting...and underneath, in pencil

"Cheerio old thing" .... a last note to my grandmother ..... bless him.

xx

I love that sentimental stuff RR. Your Grand-dad sounds like a larrikin!

A different age, Rose.

"Cheerio old thing" - Not my age, but I somehow wish it was!

Dear Rambling Rose

Hello,

A beautiful note from a very lovely gentleman.

They simply do not make them like that anymore.

Best wishes to you and your brother.

Thank you Elizabeth , Sue and Alison :)

Although I never met my grandfather I am very proud of him , he was from a big family , poor Londoners (parents came from Ireland) , started out as a hall porter in London, but with excellent reference from employers there (which I have) and with determination he became a bank cashier with Lloyds, a big step up the scale then I think.

RIP Daniel Keating ,for whom my son is named :)

My dad died when I was barely four years old. Recently whilst searching the London Gazette site I found his death announcement placed by his solicitors naming the date of his death, my mum's name and the address at which we lived at the time of his death. It gave me an weird feeling and I printed it of and kept it.

The London Gazette site was put on GR by another member and I am so pleased that I looked at it
