Well moonchild Im 61 so we could be the same age both children of the sixties the best age ever. My first job earned £5 a week and Mum had £2 Anne. |

I think I had about half a crown also. But I can remember vividly when I first started work and earned £2-10 shillings. I gave mum the two pound for my 'keep', and kept the 10 shillings. Mum would then put half what I gave her away, to save for a pair of winter shoes, and a winter coat for me. The coat was always made, never bought. I never had a bought coat all my childhood, even though my parents were not very well off. It was the custom, well at least in my family, that you always had your winter coat made. I wonder if we are about the same age Anne.......I too used to get half a crown........and would go up to the shops and buy a Bunty comic and loads of sweets.........its a wonder I still have my own teeth......lol.... |

Can anyone remember pocket money years ago I got 2shillings and six pence. a fortune then you could buy a comic for a few pence bag of chips for sixpence. My treat was Dad bought me a crunchie once a week. Anne. |
