Thanks Uzzi, that's a good idea too.

As you say there's quite a few good ideas here.

Thank you everyone :-)

A lot of ideas there for you SRS one thing that is a good idea is the folding door or partioning. My parents had a downstairs wet room and the floor was a nightmare and dangerous if not mopped with dry towels . My nephew who has to have a wet room because of his chair has sliding doors across his shower part.

Ooo don't get me wrong, Mum is really happy with it, she doesn't mind putting the towels down to stop the water lol. She's more than happy not to have to climb in and out of a bath, she's fallen over too many times.

" and four weeks later the ceiling came down in the dining room where the bath had leaked........"

OMG Moonchild - did it cause much damage to the dining room apart from the missing ceiling that is?

Thanks TW,...... 0))))) ....... we did have a plumber, but he played silly wotsits and one day he was there another not......so OH went ahead.........and paid the price.......plumber, part of the ceiling re-plasterboarded, and the whole ceiling plastered......

Yes it was an extra feature, it just caught any overspill of water. I wish they'd put one in Mum's bathroom.

Sally, something as big as that really needs doing by professionals TBH. That way, should anything go wrong, which it shouldn't, but you are covered.

hi i have a wet room and think they are great if it is fitted properly you should have no trouble with it . we have half doors round it so the water cannot leak out . hope this makes sense alway get a reputable plumber to fit it .

Sally Report 24 Jun 2009 13:56

From what I could see, the floor underneath is sloped downwards towards the grating in the middle, so the water automatically goes downhill on a slight gradiant........hadn't thought about the water spraying under the door though........if it's a small bathroom, that could be something to think about......

After reading the comments, I think if we did go in for one we would get it supplied and fitted by the manufacturer.......I know OH is good at DIY, but after all, it was him that fitted our all singing/dancing double power shower/steam cubicle bath thing.......and four weeks later the ceiling came down in the dining room where the bath had leaked........

Thanks Roxanne, we'll bear that in mind.

Thanks TW, there's a lot of very good advice there and gives us a few different things to think about.

Sorry to be so daft but how did this drainage track work, is this an extra feature?

My mum has one, as she can't get in and out of a bath, the council put her a wetroom in. Only trouble is, it's not realy deep enough, so she has towels around the edge of the shower area to stop the water running out.

Other than that it is done really well, with deep skirting around the walls. It's just a pity the shower is behind the door, so if the water ran it would soak her hall carpet lol.

My late BIL had one because of his disabilities, and was opposite the door in his bungalow so although it was fitted in a very similar way to mum's, there was no risk of water flowing out. He also had a shallow but useful drainage track in the floor to help too.

If you want to fit a wetroom, just be mindful of the position of the shower in the bathroom, and the depth of the shower area.

To be honest I think it was a case of a friends friend ,she was doing a favour of sorts.
I dont actually think they were "reputable" if you get what I mean;-))lol
but its been a real pain for them, they cant use it at the moment,so it looks as if their charitable bit od work will cost them much more money to get it sorted.

oooh thanks for that Rozanne.

How did she get it fitted? ie was it through a big firm or a smaller bathroom company?

Sally

Sally Report 24 Jun 2009 13:21

Spooky, I googled that this morning because if we downsize and get a smaller bathroom, we have decided a wetroom might be the answer........I did worry in case the wet penetrated through........but if it is done properly they seem to be fine......

My s-i-l is a builder and works for someone who built his own wetroom......it was on the ground floor though........they have been around for a few years and I haven't heard of anything bad said about them......
