Napisan wasnt available when our daughter was born in 1958! i used to fill a bucket with cold water and after rinsing the nappies would immerse them in the bucket . Would change the water several times a day BUT she still got nappy rash.

Lindy, we are both us playing the waiting game, lol If I get one first I will bring it over to share with you lol and if you get any first, I will come and borrow them lol

Dutch, you know you wouldn't give one of them away !

My son had no nappy rash and I used terry nappies 99% of the time with him, and also had no washingmachine so would soak them in napisan and wash them in the bath, occasionally would take them to the launderette for a boil wash. Still have the nappies in the loft lol

We have had red hair in the family for several generations, evidently it is quite a "strong" gene. Our elder son has two daughters, but they live in Canada. When they were here last year I found it difficult to change nappies - I needed a towelling square and a pin!

What i found too was the ease of nappy changes!! I used the terry towelling ones for our only daughter as this was the only thing availble then .Poor love suffered badly with nappy rash and i had to get special pink cream from the chemist to use on her bum! stained the nappies too!!, even so she suffered badly with a sore bot!!.I didnt have a washing machine then only a boiler and her nappies were soaked each day in a bucket and then boiled up the next day . I know land fill now is a problem BUT then nappy rash was a problem too. I wish i had disposables then!!

Dermot, you are still not getting that thread, are you?

Shirley, I am green with envy, I am still waiting for a grandchild! Doubt I will ever get to see great grandchildren, especially if my son doesn't hurry up and find a partner lol

I was watching a Wife Swap programme and a SuperNanny one recently and there were some delightful toddlers on there, wish I hadn't stopped my childminding when I did, I do miss the interaction with little ones.

Well said, Shirley. Don't forget that the Gt-Grandchildren will also get tremendous comfort from you being around.

Contrasting your delight, the other day, there was another thread berating the audacity of some families taking their children along to a wedding reception.

Strange world sometimes!

Been getting my hand in again last week and again yesterday looking after my grt grandaughter Katie aged 9 months. What a lovely ,sunny baby she is .all red hair and coos and big smiles. She has 4 teeth and is just getting to the gibberish language ,she thought i was so funny when i answered her "talk" with "yes i know exactly what you are saying,we had one of those but got rid of it"lol

They say grandchildren are a joy ,but i marvel at having grt grandchildren now and knowing that the family genes are still ongoing. Brings it home to me because of all the family research and thinking wow my ancestors had no idea of how their family genes would be carried on
