Chrome cleaner from a car parts supplier should do the chassis.

I think the one I've got is "Autosol" or something like that which is effective.

hi
Gail, will be nice when it's done.hubby phoned me from work monday to say did i want an old pram. at first i was a bit reluctant as he went on to say it was in a bit of a mess(well when he said a "Bit" )i sort of knew what to expect,he's a builder and this pram had been thrown out with all the interiors of the building even the pouring rain had got to it.so now i wake up to my pram next to the kitchen table each morning wondering when and how to start work on it,it looks' a right sorry sight at the moment.

That sounds like an amazing find, should be loads of fun doing it up as well. I will do some checking through my data tomorrow. But, honestly I am not sure how to get the rust stain out of the polly cotton mix without some bleaching.

Hope some more idea surface for you. Not sure when the cotton mixes came in, but if it is what I think it is it could be calico, or even linen.

hi gail,
it's not as thick as cotton so i am assuming it could be a poly/cotton mix.......(did they av poly/cotton in those daze) with a lovely tassel frill around the edge,

Sorry forgot to ask is it Canvas or plastic? If it is canvas they only way I know to remove rust is with salt and lemon juice, citric acid. It will lighten the material.

Do not use armour oil on the canvas.

Rust on the chasis is a bit easier, very find steel wool and soapy water, dry thoroughly then a very light oil and polish, or some armour oil

Citric acid will bleach, try and use some armour oil in an inconspicuous spot first. Sometimes a bit of saddle soap will also work.
