Liz, I suppose the term "Hub" can apply better to a wireless router,

wireless is more convenient sometimes, ( specially when " Er indoors"" is upstairs in bed with a lappy,

like yours, my three are connected with cables,

Thanks for the replies - OH says we have three hard wired telephone sockets throughout the house. Our router is permanently connected to one of these with my pc and husband's laptop connected by ethernet cables. Our internet provider suggested ethernet connection for my husband's laptop because of it's age and the problem we had trying wireless connection.

Many thanks for the replies, when our son is here he can connect his laptop using "wireless" connection - is there any advantage to having a hub - we have a phone socket by the side of the computers

Have just got a BT one, it is plugged into the phone line socket and then with the use of wireless 'dongle' ( receiver basically) connected to PC allows more than one PC to be online without the use of cables... great as the phone point is downstairs here and the PC's (2) upstairs :)

Sometimes when I have been on the phone, a message comes up saying that my 'Home Hub' is not connected, so a wait a few minutes and log on again

Thanks but not much wiser - we have a router with my computer and my husband's laptop connected to broadband plus scanner and printer.

Hi Liz generally it refers to a ROUTER,
a unit that is used instead of a modem, you can usually have 4 pc's inputs to the unit which connects to the web, broadband etc.


OR a multiway usb connector allowing
camera, scanner, printer, etc to be connected to a pc.....

probably called a HUB because like the spokes of a wheel several cables can be connected......
